For years I worked in recruiting and staffing. I started off with temping administrative support and corporate professionals, logistics, project managers, and then I was introduced to the wonderful world of telecommunications. Telecommunication is also known as telecom, is the transmission of signs, signals, messages, words, writings, images and sounds or information of any nature by wire, radio, optical or other electromagnetic systems. This is where I excelled in recruiting, identifying telecom and technology professionals.
I'm sharing this to tell you that I had to discover my niche in order to attain success in recruiting & staffing. It's the first thing you should do if you want to start your own staffing agency. (Discover Your Niche) What do you like? What keeps you up at night? What industry titles do you value? When you go to a business what characteristic do you enjoy critiquing ? Their customer service? Sales? Those attributes usually are connected with what you're good at and in turn can be apart of your niche!
Second, get your capital up. There are tons of ways to build capital, fundraising, angel investors, capital funding, small business loans, the list goes on and on and on... The best thing to do is get with a Career & Business Development coach that is going to share with you in depth how to attain these various funding opportunities. Also, creating a business plan is vital to identifying metrics and overall mission of your staffing agency.
Ok you have your niche, you have your capital, now it's time to make relationships. When I began my staffing agency, I started recruiting telecom field techs. I really had no idea how I received the opportunity but I had been networking in the industry that I wanted to be in and someone remembered me and well the rest is history. The saying goes, "It's not what you know, it's who you know." I tend to disagree. I think it's both and if you are just meeting someone, it's having a lasting impression on them with what you DO know. (Don't think too hard on that, just BE you.) Go to events, after work networking, do lunches, coffees, conferences, trade shows that specialize in your niche and watch your being intentional open the doors that you need to achieve a successful staffing agency.
YES, of course creating a staffing agency has way more steps than this BUT this is truly the first steps to creating one. If you would like more details and step by step guidance, schedule a chat with me.
